There is the intelligent haunting which is the scary type of haunting that everyone is familiar with. It has intelligence and can plan and react to the physical world around it. These are curious ghosts and malicious ghosts and demons and other forms of energy of a dark nature like shadows and mysts that can affect your physical body as well as your spirit.

A residual haunting is exactly what it sounds like. It is the residual energy of a person or many people that came to a sudden or a traumatic end. The energy or energies attach to whatever thing that becomes their focus at that exact moment of hyper-excitement / anxiety in which they confusingly, without acceptance, meet the separation from their physical body.

They cannot interact with anything no matter what. It has no intelligence and cannot communicate with anyone or react to anything. It is like a recording that only plays back the same thing every time it has gathered up enough power and will loop and play until it runs out of power. it gathers power from people having excitement around it whether joy or fear or anger. It will not steal power from people as it is not aware that it needs power, nor does it care that it doesn’t have power.

If you are in its path, it will walk right through you, or walls, or whatever. You cannot free them from their attachment by destroying the item to which they have attached. It may seem that they have attached to a house, but if the house is removed they will continue the playback of their recording on invisible stairs or on a non-existent balcony. Maybe they attach to the geographical coordinates? But they can attach to physical things as well and will follow that thing wherever it goes.

They are quite interesting and harmless. I will relate to you a true story that gives me credential in this area and which sparked my interest in these types of hauntings, which are quite rare.

One night twenty or so years ago, my wife and i are awakened by the sound of children playing in our bedroom. Many children having fun. They were giggling and squealing and whispering. Their voices were near and far. One of them whispered in my ear. Others were talking at the foot of the bed. They did this for about a minute and then loud laughter and they began circling the bed going round and round. Their laughter and screams would go through the wall at the headboard and still be heard, though muffled, and re-emerge through the wall on the other side of the bed. This continued for about another minute or so and just faded away when it ran out of power.

One more time it happened in that house, but ended sooner, just after they began circling. We moved from that house and it followed us into our new house. The wife and i divorced, not because of the haunting, and it followed me to my new apartment.

Eventually i had figured it out; the type of excitement it needed for power, its full loop, and the type of lighting to be able to see them and that they were attached to the bed, not me or the house. The children were playing games around the tree that was used to make the bed!

i can only imagine what could have suddenly happened to kill all those children at the same time and spare the tree. A bomb perhaps? There was no pain in their deaths or they would have expressed fear. Or perhaps those children in the group that didnt die instantly had time to understand and accept their fate and were not included in the haunting.
